Hey, Matt: Just don’t like the sound of that

Bears running back Matt Forte injured his knee on this play in 2011 and missed the rest of the season. The thought of Forte playing in the Pro Bowl on Jan. 29 and possibly reinjuring his knee does not sit well with Mike Spellman.

C’mon, seriously?

Matt Forte passed his physical and plans to play in the Pro Bowl in Honolulu at the end of the month.

Go over there, soak in the sights, drink something out of a coconut and watch the action from the sidelines? Sure.

But to actually play in a glorified exhibition game and risk reinjuring that knee again?

Man, I don’t like the sound of that.

Question:

Who’s scrappier: Andy Shaw or Andrew Shaw?

Par-tay on the Patio:

Gotta admit I like the lack of hubbub surrounding the Cubs’ announcement of a new patio section in the right field bleachers, one that will feature a 70-foot LED board.

Ten years ago people would have been up in arms. Now they realize it’s how you’re able to afford arms, and bats, and ...

Lowe’s crow Drew reactions:

It appears actor Rob Lowe, citing what he deemed solid sources, lit-trally could not have been more off base tweeting of Peyton Manning’s impending retirement.

What’s next?

Lauren Tewes chiming in about Tim Ruskell’s interview with the Bears on Thursday?

Perfect timing:

The Bulls’ next three opponents head into the weekend with a combined record of 13-30.

In other words: Sit. Derrick. Rose.

Interesting:

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie signed a bill into law Thursday legalizing sports betting at the Atlantic City casino and the state’s four horse racing tracks.

Whether it comes to fruition depends on NJ’s attempt to fight a federal law that makes it illegal to bet on sports in all but four states. If it were to be overturned, all 50 states could then offer sports betting.

Can you imagine?

He’s toast(ed):

FYI: An image of Tim Tebow on a grilled cheese sandwich is currently being auctioned on eBay.

Also available is a Belgian waffle which bears a striking resemblance to Ringmaster Ned.

Mixed reviews:

Watching the highlights of Cuban prospect Yoennis Cespedes, whose name has been on the radar of both baseball teams in town, one can’t help but be impressed.

Power? Check.

Opposite-field power? Check.

Amazing vertical leap? Check.

Beast in the weight room? Check

A propensity to pose on home runs? Check.

Can’t win ’em all, huh?

Local flavor:

Did you catch the opening kickoff of the Texans-Ravens game?

Former Bear Danieal Manning returned it 60 yards for the Texans, and the only player standing in his way was Buffalo Grove’s very own Tom Zbikowski.

Super Bowl redux?

Nope.

49ers vs. Patriots this time around.

Fol ‘c’ sle ... of a tramp steamer:

What a pleasant surprise to see John Drummond pop up on a Channel 2 newscast this week.

Now all they need to do is bring back Bill and Walter and ... wait, what?

Oops:

“The Giants are going to the Super Bowl.”

— Vice President Joe Biden, speaking to a crowd in San Francisco. Biden, quickly realizing what he said, announced that “the 49ers are on their way!”
