Owner says he’s basing business on quality, service

Gilberts small business owner Sachin Sehgal has worked in the hospitality field for almost two decades, and he’s bringing that experience to the village.

Sehgal, 38, and his wife, Neha Khurana, 30, recently opened Ooz Fruz at 11 Galligan Road. The shop is open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

The bright store next door to Cruisin’ offers healthy frozen treats and gourmet teas and coffees. Customers fill up their own cup of frozen yogurt out of a machine similar to Slurpee or soft serve ice cream machines.

Sehgal and his staff brew organic tea selections like oolong or Japanese green tea. Coffee is from LaVazza.

The self-serve concept is not new to the Chicago suburbs, but what makes Ooz Fruz different is its selection of organic teas and gourmet coffee.

“I have always had a vision of becoming an entrepreneur and developing a brand,” Sehgal said. “This is a grass-roots start.”

Sehgal worked on cruise liners for about 17 years, where he met people from all over the world and learned about different cultures and nationalities.

“It was a great, versatile experience that blends a lot in hospitality,” Sehgal said. “But service with a smile is always the most important.”

Frozen yogurt is priced at 45 cents per ounce. An 8-ounce serving will set you back about 100 calories, plus calories from whatever toppings are added. Flavors of frozen yogurt include Alpine Vanilla, Dutch Chocolate, Cake Batter and strawberry. Flavorings like mint can also be injected into the vanilla frozen yogurt.

The fun continues with the array of toppings, including granola, chocolate chips, berries, mango, pretzels, brownies and cereal crumbles.

In addition, Ooz Fruz can whip up a signature smoothie or a breakfast parfait of frozen yogurt, fruit and granola. The store also offers breakfast sandwiches like sausage, egg and cheese, and a variety of baked goods.

“I was inspired to offer something healthy,” Sehgal said. “It is very good and very good for you. The benefits are it is good for your tummy, supports wellness, promotes a healthy lifestyle and is good for your bones.”

So far, business has been good, said Sehgal, who said he would like to open another store in the future.

“We want to get settled before we open another store,” Sehgal said. “People are enjoying the quality and the service.”
