Blackhawks on a roll since Edmonton debacle

The Blackhawks’ 9-2 loss at Edmonton on Nov. 19 easily represented the low point of the season.

“Nothing positive came out of that game,” Patrick Sharp said.

But while some panicky fans were calling for personnel changes, the Hawks quietly went about regrouping and are 12-4-1 since that awful night heading into Monday’s rematch with the Oilers at the United Center.

“We’ve definitely played better hockey since that game,” Sharp said. “It’s something that we’ll remember. You never want to get beat that bad, and maybe it was a wake-up call for everyone involved.”

The Hawks had a two-day getaway in Las Vegas planned following that ugly loss, and coach Joel Quenneville decided to let the players go have some fun despite what had happened.

“I remember getting asked questions, should you be going to Vegas after a game like that?” Quenneville said. “A couple days away didn’t hurt, and at the same time I liked the approach going into San Jose.”

The Hawks rebounded with a strong effort four days later in 1-0 loss at San Jose before posting wins at Anaheim and Los Angeles to close the circus trip.
