St. Charles

• Javan Davis, 23, of the 900 block of North Avenue in Villa Park, was charged Dec. 16 with retail theft, according to a police report. Store security at Von Maur, 3810 E. Main St., observed Davis return items to the store without a receipt and receive store credit on a gift card. The report states security observed Davis place four pairs of boxer shorts on a rack near a store exit, purchase several items, then attempt to leave the store with the boxers without paying for them. Upon police questioning, Davis admitted to taking the boxer shorts, but he said he planned on paying for them.

• Books used to assist children during speech therapy and a GPS system were reported stolen from two vehicles parked in the area of South Third Street an Fellows Dec. 9, police said. The windows on both vehicles were smashed to gain entry.


• Between noon and 9 p.m. Dec. 21, someone pried open a mailbox in the foyer of an apartment building in the 0-99 block of Simpson Street, police said. The resident affected said it was the second time in two weeks this has happened.


Eric S. Deneui, 22, of Rolling Knolls Avenue, and Adam M. Childers, 22, of West Camden Lane in South Elgin, were arrested early Wednesday and charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a police report. At about 12:30 a.m. Deneui and Childers were in a car in the parking lot of a strip mall in the 200 block of Dundee Avenue when police approached. The only other car in the parking lot was later determined to be Childers'. Police smelled cannabis when Deneui rolled down the driver's window. A clear glass jar with a green leafy substance that tested positive for cannabis, and two smoking pipes were found in the car. Childers and Deneui posted $150 bond. No information about their next court date was immediately available.

Kane County

• A driver's license and a $20 bill were stolen out of a vehicle between 12:30 and 1:46 p.m. Monday at Riverbend Park on Kane Avenue in St. Charles Township, police said.
