Illinois adds days to pheasant season at 2 sites

SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has extended the controlled pheasant hunting seasons at two state recreation areas.

The agency said Wednesday that it will add a Jan. 11 to 15 window to the seasons at Eldon Hazlet State Recreation Area in Clinton County and at Wayne Fitzgerrell State Recreation Area in Franklin and Jefferson counties. Both are southern Illinois locations.

The department says it is extending the season because the production of young pheasants is up this year in its wildlife propagation programs.

Hunters can get permits for the extended pheasant season at the DNR website.
