Gilberts levy slightly higher than last year

The village of Gilberts will ask for 4.9 percent more in its property tax levy this year than last year.

Village Administrator Ray Keller said the increase is based on a desire to capture revenue from new construction, but the village probably won’t get the entire $930,765 it is requesting.

“We slightly overshoot what we realistically intend to collect so that there’s a little bit of a margin in case something comes back as a higher assessed value than we expected,” Keller said.

The village should get pretty close to the levied amount, according to Keller, though he said residents should keep in mind the village portion is just a small part of the entire property tax bill.

Last year board members approved a levy of $900,174.

This year’s levy must be filed with the Kane County Clerk by Tuesday.
