D95 board to interview candidates for vacancy

Lake Zurich Unit District 95 board members will interview candidates for a vacant spot on their panel next month, officials said.

John Kropf resigned his seat on the school board Dec. 2 because he was moving out of the district, which makes him ineligible to serve. The resignation was effective immediately.

The board will meet as a committee of the whole to interview candidates on Tuesday, Jan. 3, and Thursday, Jan. 5. Ten people voiced interest in the post, and all will be interviewed, board President Kathy Brown said.

“The board is honored to have such a highly-qualified pool of applicants,” Brown said in an email. “We know that we have a difficult decision ahead of us. Having such a strong group of candidates reflects our community’s passion and commitment to serving our children.”

Both sessions are set for 6 p.m. at the District 95 administration center, 400 S. Old Rand Road, Lake Zurich.

Brown expects the board will appoint a new member Thursday, Jan. 12.

Kropf joined the board in 2005 and was in his second term. He would have been up for re-election in 2013.

The board’s eventual appointee will serve the remainder of Kropf’s term and then will be able to run for a full term.
