Attorney asks Wisc. justice not to hear redistricting

MADISON, Wis. — A motion has been filed with the Wisconsin Supreme Court seeking the recusal of Justice Michael Gableman from a pending case that could affect ongoing recall efforts targeting four Republican state senators.

Republicans are asking the Supreme Court to take a case in which they argue new legislative boundaries should be in effect for the recalls. The GOP-friendly boundaries aren't supposed to take effect until November.

Attorney Jeremy Levinson argues in the motion filed Thursday that Gableman should not participate in the case because he previously received free legal services from the law firm Michael Best and Friedrich.

That firm was hired by Republican lawmakers to help draw the legislative boundaries and initially was representing Republicans in the lawsuit. The firm has since stepped aside in that case.
