Teenager injured, man arrested, following hit and run in McHenry

A McHenry man faces charges in a hit-and-run that injured an 18-year-old girl while she was crossing a street, McHenry Police officials said.

Jesse A. Williams, 30, of the 4000 block of W. Lillian Street, is charged with one count of driving while his license was suspended, and one count of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, Deputy Police Chief John Birk said Thursday.

The unidentified teen was crossing the street in the 4400 block of W. Elm Street in McHenry when she was struck by Williams' vehicle about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Birk said.

The victim was treated at the scene before being rushed to Centegra Hospital — McHenry, where she is in serious but stable condition, Birk said.

Witnesses said the vehicle was traveling west when the woman was hit. The car then fled the scene without stopping, he said.

The McHenry Police Department's Critical Accident Investigation Team met with detectives to investigate the accident, and the name of the driver was somehow discovered, Birk said.

Detectives contacted Williams about the accident, and he turned himself into police 90 minutes later. His car was also impounded after it was located at the McHenry West Beach Park, Birk said.

Williams was taken to the McHenry County jail where he was awaiting bond hearing Thursday morning. Bond information was not released Thursday afternoon.

Birk said the investigation is continuing and additional charges may be filed pending the outcome of drug and alcohol testing.

He said the roadway was shut down for about two hours while police investigated Wednesday night.
