Man with 11 DUI arrests gets 20 years in prison

BLOOMINGTON — A central Illinois man with 11 arrests for driving under the influence has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reported Monday that 47-year-old William Dietrich of Bloomington was stopped by Illinois State Police in April during a roadside safety check.

He allegedly told police he thought it was unsafe for him to drive. Court records show that he was arrested for drunk driving after the officer allegedly smelled alcohol in the vehicle and saw an alcohol container.

Dietrich has been charged with drunk driving ten other times and has served an 8-year prison sentence for one offense in 2007.

He was sentenced at a recent hearing to twenty years.
