One-year prison term for Elgin man convicted of driving on a suspended or revoked license

An Elgin man with multiple convictions of driving on a suspended or revoked license pleaded guilty Tuesday to the same charges.

A Cook County judge sentenced Juan Guajardo, 37, to one year in prison in exchange for his guilty plea to the class 4 felony, which is punishable by one to three years in prison. Probation is also available.

Hanover Park police arrested Guajardo Sept. 16 after stopping him for failure to signal a right turn. At the time of his arrest, Guajardo was on probation from DuPage County.

Guajardo’s license was revoked for DUI in 1996, prosecutors said. He has convictions for driving on a revoked license from 2010, 2001, 2000, 1998 and three convictions from 1997, said Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Mike Crowe.

Guajardo received credit for the 82 days he has spent in custody since his arrest. He must complete 50 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
