Preschool director in Pingre Grove quits

In what Northern Kane Educational Corp. officials called “a surprise move,” Diane Schael resigned this week from her role as Yellow School principal and preschool director at Cambridge Lakes Learning Center in Pingree Grove.

As per her contract, Schael will pay “substantial liquidated damages” to the charter school operator, officials said in a news release.

Schael, who was hired in 2007, gave no specific information about her new employer or role, but called it “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” the release stated.

“I knew that I did not want to awaken in two years, at the end of my current contract, and ask ‘what if’ I had accepted. I didn’t want to regret failing to explore this option,” Schael is quoted as saying.

Attempts to contact Schael were unsuccessful.

Preschool teacher Tiffany Schumacher was named the interim preschool director, while Dana Pederson will take on the role of assistant director, officials said.

Tracy Wahl, director of teaching and learning for the charter school, said in the news release “a principal’s search takes time, and engagement will likely coincide with the normal school year for individuals under contract.”

Sylvia Polletta, Northern Kane’s vice president and COO for Norther Kane Educational Corp., declined further comment on the search for a new principal.
