Do-it-yourself “Messiah” comes to Batavia Fine Arts Centre

Featuring the latest in sound engineering, the new Batavia Fine Arts Centre auditorium is acoustically tuned with sound panels that can change for music and/or the spoken voice.

Batavia’s theater support group, STAGE, will show how great the sound can be when it presents Handel’s Do-It-Yourself “Messiah,” at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11.

The new auditorium is at the corner of West Wilson Street and Western Avenue.

Hear the magnificent sounds of Handel’s famous work as the audience joins in to sing the familiar choruses, culminating with the most famous of all, the “Hallelujah” Chorus.

Conducting this choral event will be Jeff Hunt, director of the St. Charles Singers. Soloists from the St. Charles Singers will be singing the beloved solos and recitatives from the Christmas portion.

Leading the audience will be a 60-voice choir onstage, comprising singers from area churches and schools.

Accompanying the “Messiah” will be professional musician Steven Eaklor playing on an organ furnished by Hammond Suzuki USA.

Tickets are $14 if purchased at www.BataviaFineArtsCentre.org or www.BataviaSTAGE.org, or $15 at the theater box office.

Proceeds from the “Do-It-Yourself Messiah” will benefit the Batavia Theater Program.
