McHenry man suffers fatal heart attack before crash

A 55-year-old McHenry man suffered a fatal heart attack before his car struck a guard rail in an unincorporated area near Fox Lake, authorities said.

Officials identified the man as Charles R. Stuebner.

Stuebner was driving west in the 28000 block of Big Hollow Road at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday when his vehicle swerved off the pavement and hit the guard rail, Lake County sheriff’s police Sgt. Curt Gregory said.

Witnesses told deputies Stuebner was “driving normal” before striking the rail, according to a police report. Witnesses also told police that Stuebner didn’t have a pulse immediately after the crash.

An autopsy showed Stuebner died of a heart attack, according to the McHenry County coroner’s office. He was pronounced dead at Centegra Hospital-McHenry.
