Driver dies after car strikes tree in Aurora Township

A man died early Sunday after his vehicle struck a tree in unincorporated Aurora Township, authorities said Monday.

The driver of a 2004 gold Chrysler Pacifica was traveling north on Crane Street near Dearborn Avenue just before 1 a.m. when his car made contact with the tree, according to the Kane County Sheriff's office.

The victim was transported from the scene by an Aurora Township ambulance to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

He was the sole occupant of the car, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Kane County Sheriff's Office Lt. Pat Gengler said detectives were working to identify the victim and notify his family, after which the driver's identity will be released.

Authorities have not ruled out that drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.
