Elgin shooting victims remain hospitalized

Elgin police are still investigating a shooting in the 700 block of Walnut Drive early Saturday morning that left two injured.

The shooting, which is believed to be gang-related, occurred around 2 a.m. Saturday.

One of the victims was seriously injured and was airlifted to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, said Elgin police spokeswoman Sue Olafson.

The second victim’s condition was unknown Monday afternoon, but both victims remained hospitalized, Olafson said.

A police officer heard the shots fired Saturday morning, and moments later dispatchers received a call reporting a victim in the same area.

Police chased a man and a gun was recovered, Olafson said.

Olafson said the shooting does not appear to be connected to the gang-related murder of 5-year-old Eric Galarza Jr. a week earlier.
