Donors can give unlimited cash to Walker recall defense

MADISON, Wis. — State law allows donors to give unlimited cash to defend Gov. Scott Walker against a possible recall election.

During regular elections for governor, individuals are allowed to donate no more than $10,000. But, in the case of a recall, the cap is removed.

Government Accountability Board spokesman Reid Magney tells the State Journal that unlike regular elections, recalls leave politicians with little time to raise money.

Democrats will begin an effort to recall the Republican governor over his contentious union rights law beginning Nov. 15, meaning an election could be held as early as next spring.

Organizers will have until Jan. 13 to collect about 540,000 signatures needed for the recall.
