Woodstock’s ‘Angel of Death’ admits overmedicating patient

A former nurse accused of overmedicating patients with morphine at a Woodstock nursing home has pleaded guilty to a felony charge of criminal neglect.

Marty Himebaugh, 60, of Lake in the Hills, faces up to three years in prison when sentenced Dec. 14 by Judge Joseph Condon.

Himebaugh entered the plea Thursday in exchange for an agreement by prosecutors to drop five other felony counts against her, according to court records. Himebaugh admitted she administered a prescription drug to a patient without authorization.

Himebaugh and her former supervisor, Penny Whitlock, were charged in 2008 after an investigation into six suspicious deaths of terminally-ill patients at the Woodstock Residence Nursing Center in 2006. Three bodies were exhumed as part of the 15-month investigation.

Neither Whitlock nor Himebaugh is accused of killing patients.

In April, the 62-year-old Whitlock was acquitted by Condon on charges that she allowed Himebaugh to overmedicate patients with morphine.

A message left with Himebaugh’s defense attorney, Sam Amirante, was not returned Friday.
