Autopsy on Vernon Hills girl reveals no trauma

An autopsy on a 15-year-old Vernon Hills girl whose “suspicious” death remains under investigation by police revealed no signs of trauma Tuesday.

The girl, whose name is being withheld by authorities, was pronounced dead Saturday morning at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, but autopsy results were inconclusive Tuesday, said Lake County Coroner Artis Yancey.

“The autopsy revealed no signs of trauma or violence to the body or any abnormalities to any effects of a disease,” Yancey said. “Absolutely no violence or trauma.”

Toxicology results could take up to three weeks, Yancey said.

According to numerous sources, the girl was a student at Vernon Hills High School.

Hawthorn School District 73 Superintendent Susan Zook sent a message to district staff members Tuesday informing them that a former student died over the weekend, and that the matter remains under investigation by the Vernon Hills Police Department.

Zook asked staff members to squelch rumors and stories about the death among students in the district, while social workers and counselors were on hand at Vernon Hills High School Tuesday, according to an announcement on its website.
