Cheaper electricity in Grayslake:

The villages of Grayslake, Lincolnwood and Oak Brook have accepted a bid from Integrys Energy Services Inc. to provide power for the municipalities’ electric aggregation programs. The three villages locked in electric rates that should represent a 30 percent savings for residential customers and 32 percent for small businesses when compared to ComEd. The rates, anticipated to take effect in January, are guaranteed for two years. Officials said the aggregate savings should be more than $6 million. Voters in separate advisory referendums gave the villages the authority to secure electric through a provider other than ComEd. The power still will travel through ComEd’s infrastructure, and the towns only negotiated the rates with Integrys. Grayslake officials have stressed the village hasn’t entered the electric business. Residents and businesses may opt to go with ComEd’s higher rates.
