Antioch will host its annual Fall Fest at the William E. Brook Entertainment Center (the Bandshell) Saturday, Oct. 8.
It will feature activities such as Adventure Race, Wiener Races, pumpkin roll, The Limerick vs. The Lodge challenge, baggo tournament, all-ages bingo, beer tasting, book sale, parks and recreation mini games, haystack hunt, kids coloring contest, kids moonwalk and live music.
Adventure Race: 10 a.m. at the band shell. This event is co-sponsored by the village of Antioch and Northbridge Church and will feature teams of two or more competitors traveling to many corners of the village to complete challenges. Sign up at the Parks & Recreation office or Northbridge.
Noon to 4 p.m.: The official band shell events kick off with the kids coloring contest sponsored by AmericaUnited Bank, haystack hunt sponsored by State Bank of the Lakes, moonwalk sponsored by Lindenhurst Early Childhood Center, pumpkin art sponsored by PNC Bank, the prize wheel sponsored by Great Lakes Credit Union and the parks and recreation mini games.
Weiner Races: 2 p.m. Features dachshunds racing up the hill competing to find the fastest wiener dog in the area. Participants must have up-to-date records on their pet and registered before the beginning of the event. This event will feature divisions based on weight. Register your dog for $3 per entry through the parks and recreation office or at the event.
Kids pumpkin roll: After the Weiner Races and sponsored by the State Bank of the Lakes. This event is a day-of registration event that costs $5 per roll with registration opening at noon. Each participating child will stand at the top of the hill and roll a pumpkin down the hill. They have a chance to win one of three cash prizes for having one of the three furthest rolls. Each child is entitled to keep their pumpkin upon the completion of the roll.
Limerick vs. The Lodge challenge: Follows the pumpkin roll. This challenge features a quick two race challenge between two of area tavern teams. Each tavern has a 10-person team made up of five women and five men competing in speed challenges featuring a beer barrel and beer stein. The winner takes home the golden cup and bragging rights for the next year.
Baggo tournament: About 4 p.m., sponsored by The Lodge of Antioch. This event will cost $10 per person and is open to all participants. Registration is open at the parks and recreation office now and will also take place leading up the tournament.
Musical lineup for the 2011 Fall Fest begins with the G-Town DJs from noon to 4 p.m. Kicking off the live music will be the Rock Rumble Winner “To Cute to Kill” and “Convolution” from 4 to 5 p.m.
From 5:30 to 7 p.m., “Rough Night Out” will play and open for headliners “Modern Day Romeos” from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Also this year is all-ages bingo from noon to 2 p.m. The Antioch Public Library District has also joined in on the fun and will host a book sale during the Fall Fest at the library.
