Strong wind knocks out power, topples trees

MILWAUKEE — Strong wind knocked down power lines, toppled trees and whipped up fall leaves in many areas of Wisconsin.

About 21,000 Wisconsin Public Service customers in northeastern and central Wisconsin were without service Friday morning. Utility crews working overnight restored power to about 20,000 WPS customers.

The National Weather Service says Door County was hit hard with more than 11,000 customers without power at the height of the service interruption. Wind gusts there were as high as 60 mph at the northern point of the peninsula.
