Downtown Vegas officials consider expanded zipline

LAS VEGAS — Officials in downtown Las Vegas are considering expanding a popular zipline that runs along the promenade lined by some of the city's oldest casinos.

The Las Vegas Sun reported Thursday that the Fremont Street Experience board has approved an engineering study to see whether it can make the attraction permanent and double its length.

Fremont Street Experience President Jeff Victor says he'd like to have an expanded zipline running by spring.

Riders now launch from metal scaffolding 67 feet high, and travel about 800 feet, halfway across the promenade. Plans call for a taller takeoff tower and a second landing pad, with riders traveling about 1,600 feet.

Victor says the ride has been a good fit for downtown and a crowd pleaser. It opened in October.
