Gregor and Miles predict the MLB divisional series

By Scot Gregor and Bruce Miles

American League

Texas vs. Tampa Bay

Today, 4:07 p.m.: Rays (Niemann 11-7) at Rangers (C. Wilson 16-7)

Scot Gregor's take: The Rays probably floated to Texas after erasing a 7-0 deficit and edging the Yankees Wednesday to qualify for the postseason. The high-powered Rangers are going to bring Tampa Bay back down to earth.

His pick: Rangers in four games

New York vs. Detroit

Today, 7:37 p.m.: Tigers (Verlander 24-5) at Yankees (Sabathia 19-8)

Scot Gregor's take: Detroit has Justin Verlander, the best pitcher in baseball. The Tigers also have Miguel Cabrera, one of the game's most dangerous hitters. The Yankees' starting rotation is shaky behind CC Sabathia, but the lineup is loaded with mashers.

His pick: Yankees in five

National League

Arizona vs. Milwaukee

Saturday, 1:07 p.m.: Diamondbacks (Kennedy 21-4) at Brewers (Gallardo 17-10)

Bruce Miles' take: Both of these teams engineered sharp turnarounds from 2010, and both did it with pitching. The Brewers picked up starters Zack Greinke and Shaun Marcum, and they made all the difference in Milwaukee. The D'Backs have a Cy Young candidate in Ian Kennedy, and Daniel Hudson won 16. MVP candidates about, with Milwaukee's Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder and Arizona's Justin Upton. The Brewers are tough to beat at Miller Park, and they have the homefield advantage.

His pick: Brewers in five

Philadelphia vs. St. Louis

Saturday, 4:07 p.m.: St. Louis (Jackson 5-2 or Garcia 13-7) at Philadelphia (Halladay 19-6)

Bruce Miles' take: While the Phillies went wire to wire in the East, the Cardinals scrambled back with an 18-8 September to overtake the stumbling Braves for the wild card. The Phillies have the best pitching in the league and Roy Halladay set to go in Game 1. The Cardinals have the more potent offense, and Albert Pujols finished strong. Will the Cardinals be too wiped out from their frantic finish?

His pick: Phillies in three
