Ela Road closure in Lake Zurich starts Monday

A section of Ela Road in Lake Zurich will be closed for two days next week to accommodate replacement of a sanitary sewer main under the pavement.

Lake County Division of Transportation officials granted permission to the village to close Ela Road from Route 12/Rand Road to Route 22/West Main Street starting at 9 a.m. Monday. Plans are for the work to continue Tuesday, with that portion of Ela reopening to traffic Wednesday.

Al Giertych, an assistant Lake County engineer, said allowing the two-day Ela Road closure was about the only option to accommodate the village sewer line replacement. He said the county transportation division tries to avoid road closures as much as possible.

Village Administrator Bob Vitas said the $400,000 project is part of Lake Zurich’s overall capital improvement plan. He said the village has reached the point where it no longer can keep fixing cracks that develop in the sewer line because of age.

“It’s important that it gets repaired because we don’t want sanitary sewer water leaching into the environment,” Vitas said Thursday.

Drivers can expect to see a signed detour route directing them to use Route 12, and not Ela Road, on Monday and Tuesday.
