Round Lake man pleads not guilty in arson case

A Round Lake man pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges he started a car on fire in an act of revenge.

Ceceillo Froylan, 33, faces up to seven years in prison if convicted of arson.

Assistant State’s Attorney Patricia Fix said Froylan, of the 300 block of Bernice Court, was involved in a fight in a bar in early August.

Froylan went to the Round Lake Park house of the man he was fighting with just after midnight on Aug. 22, Fix said, and doused a car in the driveway with gasoline.

Witnesses described a man they saw light the front end of the car on fire and run away, Fix said, and police caught Froylan not far from the crime scene in the 200 block of East Main Street.

Froylan’s clothing was soaked with gasoline at the time of his arrest, and he was carrying a plastic gas container, Fix said.

Associate Judge Theodore Potkonjak scheduled a trial of the case for Oct. 31 and ordered Froylan to appear in court Oct. 5.

Froylan is held in the Lake County jail on $75,000 bail.
