Off-duty cop shoots intruder near Wheaton

An off-duty police officer shot an intruder early Saturday during an altercation at the officer’s home in an unincorporated area near Wheaton, authorities said Monday.

Both people were taken to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield.

DuPage County sheriff’s spokeswoman Dawn Domrose said deputies responded at 7 a.m. Saturday to a report of a fight at the home.

Domrose would not identify the officer or the intruder. She would not say what agency the officer works for and said no further information will be immediately forthcoming.

The DuPage County state’s attorney is also investigating the incident and no charges have been filed, said spokesman Paul Darrah.
