Palatine, Conant pool efforts toward tie

The girls swimming teams from Conant and Palatine proved to be evenly matched Thursday — make that perfectly matched.

The host Cougars delivered a 1-2 finish in the meet’s final event, the 400-meter freestyle relay to earn a 93-93 tie against the Pirates.

Amy Zahn won the 200 and 400 freestyles for Palatine, edging Conant’s Barbara Rose in both races.

Winners for Conant include Allison Cicero in the 200 IM, Natalie Tanski in the 100 free and Casey Troccoli in the 100 breaststroke.

Palatine’s top inidividual finishers were Nicole Huffman in the 100 back, Laura Mayer in the 100 fly and Nicole Theis in the 50 free.

In diving, Palatine’s Stephanie Hamer edged Conant’s Haley Schuhl 178.85-172.25.

Prospect d. Wheeling: The Knights’ depth proved to be too much of a challenge as Prospect prevailed 118-67.

Prospect won the 200-yard medley relay and completed the meet with a 1-2 finish in the 400 free relay.

Individual winners for the Knights included Jessica Cavaiani (200 IM), Megan Tuttle (200 free, 500 free), Amanda Drucker (50 free), Kallie Shields (100 back) and freshman Dana Liva in diving (185.25).

Wheeling’s winners were Leah Malsom (100 free), Theresa Godlewski (100 back) and the 200 free relay of Shannon Richards, Godlewski, Michaela Rozmus and Malsom.

Barrington d. Schaumburg: Erika Elliott, Danielle Elliott, Mekenna Scheitlin and Justine Kaszynski were among the event winners as the host Fillies won every event except the 100 breaststroke in a 129-57 victory over Schaumburg. Saxons sophomore Sydney Skibinski took top honors in the breaststroke.
