Charlotte housing CEO takes Chicago job

The new head of Chicago’s public housing agency is Charlotte Housing Authority president Charles Woodyard.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel made the announcement Thursday. He says Woodyard has focused on sound financial management, among other things.

Woodyard takes over the Chicago Housing Authority on Oct. 24.

In June, CEO Lewis Jordan resigned from the Chicago job as city officials were awaiting a review on city credit card use at the housing authority and other agencies. City officials have said Jordan used his city card to pay for flowers and gift cards for employees. Interim CEO, Carlos Ponce, will stay as a senior adviser to Woodyard.

Woodyard has been for the North Carolina agency since 2002. He says he’s looking forward to working in Chicago and using new creative approaches.
