Controversial 'Kennedys' arrives on DVD

“The Kennedys”

The History Channel was going to make its first drama presentation with this miniseries about the Kennedy family. The decision spurred controversy, and under pressure the History Channel removed itself from the project, The miniseries found a new home with the ReelzChannel and drew a large audience when it aired.

The eight-part series, now on DVD, captures the times and the Kennedys well. Tom Wilkinson portrays the elder Joe Kennedy and shows what a powerful man he was. Katie Holmes is believable as the much-admired Jackie Kennedy, while Greg Kinnear and Barry Pepper are excellent as Jack and Bobby.

The story features lots of political intrigue and behind-the-scenes maneuvering, making it a fascinating look at a period in our nation's history and a family that captivated the masses.
