EAST ST. LOUIS — East St. Louis cops fired at during shooting probe

Authorities say the initial shooting happened early Tuesday and wounded a man in the lower back. He was taken to a hospital.

Officers at the scene of that shooting dove for cover when someone in a red Mustang opened fire. Other law enforcers chased that car but eventually lost track of that vehicle.

None of the officers were injured in that drive-by case.

Police say they later took into custody the possible driver of the Mustang.

There was no immediate word on any charge.
