100 CTA rail stations getting facelifts

The Chicago Transit Authority is sprucing things up.

The public transit system plans facelifts for 100 of its rail stations over the next year.

The work to clean up the stations and make repairs could include painting, new lighting, power washing and landscaping.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and CTA Chief Forrest Claypool announced the improvements. Emanuel spokeswoman Chris Mather says the CTA has identified cuts in the bureaucracy so it can spend the money in other places.

Claypool says the cleaning, repairs and other improvements will be done all at once in stations by a crew of workers instead of piecemeal like it had been.

The Logan Square station on the Blue Line rail is the first station in line for work, followed by the California station on the Blue Line.
