Vigil set for teen athlete who was struck by car

FRANKFORT — A candlelight vigil has been planned for a high school freshman cross-country athlete who died after being hit by car while running in a suburban Chicago forest preserve.

Fourteen-year-old Patrick Mizwicki is being remembered as a polite young man with a big heart who was loved by his teammates.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the vigil is planned for 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. Students plan to gather near the track around the football field at Lincoln-Way East High School in Frankfort.

Mizwicki died late Thursday. Cook County sheriff’s police he was training along a horse trail with. Mizwicki died at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. School officials say he was the youngest of eight siblings.

Police say the driver wasn’t speeding but did receive minor traffic citations.
