Prospect Hts. store reopens after crash

An Indian grocery store in Prospect Heights has reopened after a car went through their storefront Thursday night.

A 2012 Honda Civic crashed into Prabhu Grocers, on the 1200 block of Elmhurst Road, around 8 p.m. Thursday. The driver, a man, told them he accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, sending the car over the sidewalk and into the store.

Minal Shah, who owns the store with her husband, Vicram, was behind the counter at the cash register and a few customers were inside when the accident occurred, but no one was injured.

Prospect Heights police did not have immediate information Monday morning as to whether charges have been filed.

The Shahs closed the store and boarded up the windows but were able to reopen on Saturday. They are working with their insurance companies about the other damages and Vicram Shah said they don’t yet have an estimate on how much damage was done.

Prabhu Grocers also has locations in Des Plaines and Glenview.
