Antioch man arrested on multiple drug felonies

A 24-year-old Antioch man faces felony drug charges after police say officers found him with heroin, OxyContin and marijuana during a traffic stop last week.

Michael A. Haugen, of the 43400 block of Mildred Avenue, is charged with three counts each of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. He could face up to five years in prison if convicted of the most serious of the allegations.

He also was cited for improper lane usage.

In a news release issued this weekend, police said an officer made a traffic stop on Haugen at about 11:05 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12 after his vehicle was seen twice crossing a double yellow crossing line in the 300 block of West North Avenue.

During the stop, officers searched his vehicle and found 23 OxyContin tablets, a bill bottle containing a small amount of what was suspected to be marijuana and .54 grams of what was suspected to be heroin, police said. The latter was concealed in a can with a false bottom, which also contained a number of clear plastic bags and an undisclosed amount of cash, according to police.

Haugen told officers he only sells drugs when people need them, police said.

“I commend the hard working officers assigned to the midnight shift,” Antioch police Chief Craig Somerville said in the release. “These alert and well trained officers regularly interrupt crimes in progress, conduct DUI stops and arrest individuals who come to Antioch with the intent to deal drugs.”
