Illinois 4-Hers honored for all their hard work

The seventh and largest class of Illinois 4-H Hall of Fame inductees was recognized Aug. 13, during the 4-H Family Event at the Illinois State Fair.

The Illinois 4-H Foundation established the statewide Hall of Fame in 2005 to honor and celebrate extraordinary 4-H alumni, volunteers and former 4-H staff. Nominations for the Illinois 4-H Hall of Fame are made by University of Illinois Extension staff.

Together, the 52 members of the Hall of Fame’s Class of 2011 have been involved with 4-H as members and 4-H club leaders for more than 1,118 years. Each member resides from a different Illinois county. One of the local honorees was Joseph White of Elburn, who is a 10-year member, and 14-year volunteer.

Each inductee received a commemorative Hall of Fame medallion and will be added to the virtual 4-H Hall of Fame listing at 4hfoundation.illinois.edu/hall_of_fame.

“These individuals have done so much for our Illinois 4-H Youth Development Program,” said Angie Barnard, director of the Illinois 4-H Foundation. “Their endless devotion to the 4-H youth and this program is invaluable! We are pleased to be able to pay tribute to their legacy for future generations to learn from.”

The Illinois 4-H Foundation raises private funds that are invested in Illinois 4-H programs that provide meaningful, positive development experiences for Illinois youth to develop leadership, citizenship, and life skills.
