Hanover Park man on parole for theft is arrested for speeding

A speeding ticket police issued to a 56-year-old man Friday led to him being held on a $50,000 bail Saturday.

A Cook County judge set bail at $50,000 for Jerry Holt, who police say drove 36 mph in a 20-mph zone in the vicinity of Kingsbury and Bristol in Hanover Park.

Police also charged Holt with driving on a revoked license. Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Jerome Allen said the license was revoked for DUI in 1999.

Holt is currently on parole for a theft for which he received a 42-month sentence in 2009, Allen said.

He has been cited for times for driving on a revoked or suspended license since 1999 and currently has a case pending in Will County on the same charge, Allen said.

His criminal background includes a 1982 conviction for second-degree murder for which he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He also has a 1994 conviction for possession of a controlled substance for which he received 18 months probation.

Holt must post $5,000 to be released from custody. He next appears in court on Oct. 5.
