Huntley High to stage ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’

Submitted by Huntley High School Theatre

Huntley High School Theatre will present the classic comedy “Arsenic and Old Lace” by Joseph Kesselring at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, to Saturday, Sept. 24, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25.

“Arsenic and Old Lace” tells the story of spinster sisters Abby and Martha Brewster, two sweet old ladies who murder lonely old men by offering them elderberry wine laced with arsenic.

The sisters’ crazy but harmless nephew Teddy believes he is Teddy Roosevelt and is in the habit of charging up the staircase as if it were San Juan Hill. Teddy digs graves in the Brewster cellar, burying the sisters’ victims, whom he believes are yellow fever casualties working on the Panama Canal.

Complications set in when their nephew, Mortimer, learns of the sisters’ activities; and matters get more farcical when another Brewster nephew, Jonathan, a criminal on the lam, along with the strange Dr. Einstein, arrive with the body of their latest victim.

The production stars Joey McDarrah, Kora Rae, Maddie Rotarius, Austin Wise, Spencer Trippi, Jacob Quirk, Zoe Detlaf, Veronica Passarelli, Samantha Chapman, Alex Morton, Madison Paez, DJ Lucas, Jeremy Dorsey, Spencer Bingham, Brian Goldfarb, Jake Highly, Jordan Moore, and Harry Hochwater.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students, seniors and staff. All performances are at Huntley High School’s Performing Arts Center, 13719 Harmony Road in Huntley. Tickets are available at the door.
