Kind won’t run for US Senate

LA CROSSE, Wis. — U.S. Rep. Ron Kind of La Crosse says he won’t run for U.S. Senate.

The Democrat was named as a possible candidate for the seat held by Democratic U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl, who is retiring.

Wisconsin Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin became the first official Democratic candidate last week.

In a statement Thursday, Kind said he’s been focused on growing the economy with good paying jobs while developing a plan to get the nation’s fiscal house in order and those issues are too pressing.

Former Rep. Steve Kagan is another prominent Democrat still considering a bid.

For the Republicans, Mark Neumann is officially running and while former governor Tommy Thompson, state Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald, state Sen. Frank Lasee and former state Sen. Ted Kanavas are still considering it.
