West Nile detected at Naperville park

A Naperville city mosquito trap at Iroquois Avenue and Columbia Street in Arrowhead Park has tested positive for West Nile virus, officials announced this week.

The tests, which were conducted the week of Sept. 5, yielded negative results at all other mosquito traps throughout the city.

The area around Arrowhead Park also tested positive for the mosquito-borne virus in early August. Since then, crews have sprayed the area on Friday mornings as a precaution by “using the safest chemicals available in very low volumes,” a city news release stated.

Naperville public works crews also checked the area for breeding sites and retreated catch basins, officials said.

Park district officials said programs and activities scheduled at Arrowhead Park will go on as planned.
