Cary hopes to make final administrator selection soon

The search for a new Cary village administrator is approaching the final stretch.

Village President Tom Kierna said Tuesday the board will pick the finalists from among six semifinalists that he and trustees Raymond Chisholm and Bruce Kaplan interviewed. The finalists will be interviewed by the full board, possibly at its Sept. 27 meeting, Kierna said.

“If the individual we select is in transition, that person could start pretty soon. If he or she is employed, we would expect they would give the professional courtesy of (giving) ample notice (to their current employer),” Kierna said. “It's fair to say we expect to have a new village administrator on board no later than the end of October.”

Former Administrator Cameron Davis was dismissed by Kierna with little explanation in April. His salary was $134,139. In August, Davis was appointed village manager in Homer Glen.

Meanwhile, Cary officials said they are holding off on a few decisions until a new administrator is hired.

This week, members of the administration and development committee discussed establishing an economic development committee to help spur growth in the village. The committee supported the idea, but wanted to wait for a new village administrator to further tackle the issue, trustees Rick Dudek and Jeffery Kraus said.

A debate about d the lack of long-term parking for downtown business owners will also have to wait, Kaplan said.

Kaplan said he wants to allow business owners to park all day in the same spot, possibly with permit parking. “The business owners and the employees have to be given recognition that they are the ones working down there, and paying the rent down there,” he said.
