Woodstock networking group helps start your green business

Submitted by ECOmmunity Public Action Network

Do you have a dream or desire to run your own eco-friendly business? Want to use your time and talents to make a “green” difference in your community?

“Start Me Up! Getting Your Green Project or Business Off the Ground,” a free resource session hosted by ECOmmunity Public Action Network, may be the boost you need to get on the right track.

The Woodstock-based networking group will hold its first Green Bag Lunch Meetup of the fall season from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, in the second-floor atrium of the Woodstock Square Mall, 110 S. Johnson St.

The free, public program offers a chance for local volunteers, entrepreneurs and community groups to meet and share ideas for eco-friendly projects, “green” business opportunities and sustainable living options.

At this month’s Green Bag Meetup, participants will meet a representative from SCORE, the Service Corps of Retired Executives, who will provide information on mentoring programs, incentives and new opportunities available for “green” business development in the McHenry County area.

The noon-hour program starts with one-minute introductions by attendees, followed by the SCORE presentation and a round-table discussion. Participants are encouraged to bring their own ideas, bring a bag lunch or just come to join the conversation.

Networking begins at 11:30 a.m. in the building’s upstairs gallery, and continues after the program. Display space is provided, and attendees are invited to bring their business cards, brochures or other materials to share. Table space for displays is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. ECOmmunity’s Green Bag Meetups run from noon to 1 p.m. the third Thursday of each month in the second-floor gallery of the Woodstock Square Mall, just a two-block walk from the downtown Metra train station. The sessions are free; RSVP is appreciated but not required.

The all-volunteer networking group strives to promote a supportive, eco-friendly community through “green” business development, public service projects, environmental advocacy, and educational activities.
