Boy recovering from weekend motorcycle crash

A 7-year-old boy who was hurt in a Gurnee motorcycle accident this weekend is at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge recovering from his injuries. The boy was the passenger on a motorcycle driven by his mother, who was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center. The driver of the car was ticketed. Full story.

Dems: Jobs plan could add up to 50,000 jobs in Illinois

President Barack Obama's new jobs plan could add up to 50,000 jobs in Illinois and would invest $4.5 billion in Illinois transit and building project, according to a Democratic lawmakers' report. Republicans said they still need to see more details, including how the bill will be paid for. I tax watchdog group said the idea of cutting business payroll taxes will not spur hiring, because corporate profits remain steady. Full story.

Cops: Burglars could be linked to McHenry break-ins

McHenry County sheriff's deputies are investigating a number of unsolved residential burglaries that may be connected to two men who police said were found with stolen goods in their vehicle. Police who pulled the men over found stolen televisions and guns in their vehicle, and a search of their homes discovered stolen items from a number of McHenry residences. Full story?.

U of I law school may have inflated student statistics

An investigation into how data on incoming students at the University of Illinois College of Law may have been inflated is under way in Urbana-Champaign. An assistant dean of the college has been placed on administrative leave after the school received complaints that grade and standardized test data for the incoming class was inflated on university literature. Madigan hopes to prevent proposed state job losses

In wake of Gov. Pat Quinn's announcement that the state will lay off more than 1,900 workers and close seven state facilities, Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan said he is open to reallocating budget money to make sure that does not happen. Madigan said the House will keep the spending limits it adopted for the budget, and there will be no increase in overall spending. Full story.

Veteran Bears' defense grounds the Falcons

The group of thirty-somethings that make up the Chicago Bears' defense showed the young gun-slinging Atlanta offense what veteran experience means in the NFL. The NFL's fifth-highest-scoring offense of 2010 committed three turnovers against the Bears including a fumble, which middle linebacker Brian Urlacher took to the house in the 30-12 victory. Future consideration for Cubs: young players, Garza

There were a couple of interesting storylines as far as the Cubs were concerned coming out of Sunday night's 10-6 game against the New York Mets at Citi Field. The first was manager Mike Quade's lineup, which included Bryan LaHair in left field, Tony Campana in center and DJ LeMahieu at third base.
