Zion man gets prison in pizza store robbery

A Zion man was sentenced to four years in prison Monday after he admitted his role in the robbery of a pizza restaurant where two employees were beaten.

Keenan Morgan, 21, pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery during a hearing before Lake County Associate Judge Theodore Potkonjak.

Assistant State’s Attorney Scott Hoffert said Morgan, of the 2600 block of Horeb Avenue, and Joseph Bradshaw, 21, of the 2600 block of Lewis Avenue in Waukegan, entered the Domino’s Pizza on Grand Avenue in Waukegan just after 11 p.m. on March 19.

The men, who were wearing masks, pointed what appeared to be handguns at the two employees at the restaurant and demanded money.

Both employees were struck with the weapons and eventually handed over $338 in cash from the register.

Morgan and Bradshaw fled, but were later tied to the crime when police found information at the scene linking them to a recruitment program at Robert Morris College.

Both admitted the robbery during questioning by police, Hoffert said, and claimed the weapons they used were air guns.

In exchange to Morgan’s guilty plea to aggravated robbery, Hoffert agreed to drop charges of aggravated battery.

Bradshaw pleaded guilty in a similar negotiation on Aug. 22 and was sentenced to six years in prison.

Both could have faced up to 15 years in prison if convicted of all the charges against them.
