Mt. Prospect man charged with felony DUI

A 20-year-old Mount Prospect man was charged with felony aggravated DUI after violating several traffic codes early Saturday morning, authorities said at a bond hearing in Rolling Meadows.

Joaquin Espinoza-Lopez was pulled over at 1:43 a.m. Saturday at Dempster Avenue and Busse Road by Mount Prospect Police. He admitted to having three beers, failed a field sobriety test, then was brought to the police station, Assistant State’s Attorney Robin Murphy said.

Twenty minutes after arriving at the station, Espinoza-Lopez took a breath test, which showed his blood alcohol concentration to be .182, Murphy said. That’s more than twice the legal limit for people 21 or older.

Espinoza-Lopez also was charged with misdemeanors for traffic violations including improper lane usage, improper stopping in a roadway and driving without a valid driver’s license, Judge Joel Greenblatt said.

Bond was set at $5,000 for Espinoza-Lopez, who has been living in Illinois for five years and never obtained a valid driver’s license from any state, Murphy said.

Espinoza-Lopez has no criminal background. He is due in court Sept. 14.
