Lombard updates its online presence

Lombard's website was visited 283,505 times in the past year.

But the next 283,505 viewers — and more — will see the site differently, as a redesigned village website launches today.

The redesign added an extra $89 a month to the village's contract with Civic Plus, bringing the yearly cost for website hosting and support to $10,035, according to Lombard's information technology department.

The redesign comes just as trustees are discussing an 11-part website transparency policy proposed by Trustee Peter Breen.

The policy addresses what types of information should be posted in categories such as village employee salaries, budgets, expenditures, contracts, taxes and fees. It's scheduled to be up for discussion again at the village board meeting Sept. 15.

All information previously on the village's website remains there, and more can be added if trustees approve the transparency policy, according to Larry McGhinnis, IT manager.

“We are always updating it and the feedback that we receive is reviewed, and when possible, implemented,” he said in a news release.

The last time the village's website got a facelift was in October, 2007. The contract with Civic Plus allows for a redesign every four years.
