Hanover Park man charged with DUI, violating order of protection

A drive who police say fled after crashing his van Thursday evening on Lake Street in Hanover Park is being held without bond on a variety of charges, including DUI and violating an order of protection.

Arnulfo Hernandez-Rodriguez, 32, of Hanover Park was found at his residence on the 7100 block of Astor Avenue about five hours after he crashed his Nissan van into a light pole on Lake Street, east of Barrington Road, said Hanover Park Deputy Chief Tom Cortese.

Hernandez-Rodriguez faces 11 charges, including no insurance, revoked license, transportation of open alcohol and failure to give police information on the accident, which occurred about 6:45 p.m. He was arrested around 11:55 p.m. and taken to the DuPage County jail.

A passenger in the van also fled after the accident but was found near the scene soon after the crash and not charged, Cortese said. There were no injuries.

Police said that earlier on Thursday, Hernandez-Rodriguez had violated a Cook County order of protection put in place in April by his wife, who is staying elsewhere in Hanover Park. The wife called police about 5:30 p.m. to report a broken window at the residence that she assumed was done by Hernandez-Rodriguez, police said.

“We don’t know whether he was fleeing from there or not when he crashed his van,” Cortese said.
