Wins keep coming for Hamann, Prospect

Prospect’s girls golf team earned its 45th straight Mid-Suburban League meet victory on Thursday, and Jim Hamann needs only two more overall wins to reach 100 for his seven-year career as Knights coach.

Leading the way in a 162-184 triumph over Hersey was sophomore Noreen Caporusso, who fired an even-par 36 on the front nine of the Rob Roy Golf Course in Prospect Heights.

Caporusso, who recorded pars on the first seven holes before bogeys on the final two, posted her first medalist honors in a meet.

“She played great,” Hamann said. “Noreen has really turned the corner and is doing a tremendous job. I think you’ll see her even better in the future. She is hitting the ball too well not to get better. She is a very talented young lady.”

Senior Christine Garmoe hit eight greens to record a 39 for the Knights, followed by sophomore Emma Menich’s 43 and senior Sarah Scaccia’s 44.

It was the first time Prospect has counted a score from Menich, who is playing on the varsity for the first time this season.

“I have been very pleased with what Emma has been doing in practice and how she handles herself on the course,” Hamann said “I am really excited about her future.”

Prospect, which has two tourney wins and finished second in two, improved to 7-0 in MSL play. The Knights compete in the Waukegan Invite at Bonnie Brook on Saturday.

Hersey was led by senior Nikki Gierman’s 40 while teammate Katie McIlree shot a 44.

Buffalo Grove 180, Schaumburg 212: Junior Grace Kil fired a 1-under 37 on the back nine of the Buffalo Grove Golf Club to earn medalist honors.

Kil, who owns the BG school record of 34, had 5 pars, 3 birdies and a double bogey.

Courtney Meyer added a 44 for the Bison, followed by Amber Guiao (46) and senior Jessie Lazzara (53), who had her score counted for the first time on Senior Day.

Bree Wozniarski (51), Caity Ugel (51), Mo Hutchinson (52) and Emily Santucci (58) led the Saxons.

Fremd 180, Hoffman Estates 253: Junior Angie Kim (41) was the top scorer for the Vikings on the par-36 back nine of Palatine Hills.

Sophomore Dorothy Feng had a 44, followed by senior Madison Zyer (47) and senior Christiana Kim (48).

“We are trying to break the 170 mark, “ said Fremd coach Jeremy Malinowski. “We are right there. It’s come down to our younger kids.”

Conant 192, Elk Grove 213: Jackie Halden and Ellen O’Malley led Conant with scores of 47 while Elk Grove’s Katie DeMeulenaere earned medalist honors with a 45.
