Boys soccer/Fox Valley roundup

Erik Rodriguez tallied 2 goals and 3 assists to lead Larkin’s boys soccer team to a 5-1 win over Wheaton-Warrenville South Thursday night in the second round of the Pepsi Showdown.

The No. 6 seed Royals (5-2-1) take on No. 3 seed Lyons Township Saturday at Lyons in the quarterfinals.

Manny Aguilar, Tony Hernandez, and Tony Escamilla recorded the other 3 goals for the Royals Thursday while Santiago Guerrero recorded 10 saves in goal.

Huntley 3, Hampshire 2 (OT): Niko Miholopolous found the back of the net twice, including the game-winner in overtime to propel the Red Raiders (5-1-2, 3-0) to 3-2 victory in this Fox Valley Conference game. Lucas Baker scored Huntley’s other goal while Ismael Morales and Andrew Obmalay recorded goals for the Whip-Purs. Whip-Purs’ goalie Bryan Contreras turned away 13 shots on goal and Austen Emery stopped 6 shots.

Jacobs 2, Woodstock North 1: Mario Rako (assist) and Nick Larussa each recorded a goal to lead the Golden Eagles (4-3) to a 2-1 victory. Nick Matysik recorded 8 saves in goal.

Crystal Lake South 6, Crystal Lake Central 0: Charlie Oliver (2 goals), Sam Murdock, Robert Albuquerque, Charlie Ruff, and Renato Albuquerque all scored for the Gators (5-2) in their 6-0 victory. Steve Follmer recorded 2 saves to preserve the shutout.

Westminster Christian 3, Cornerstone 0: The Warriors (3-1-1, 1-0) were led by John Jannick, Collin Suds, and Josh Beachler as they all found the back of the net for a 3-0 victory. Sam Carani preserved the shutout with 7 saves.

Geneva 3, South Elgin 1: Owen Bott scored the Storms’ (3-3-1, 0-2-1) lone goal in this 3-1 Upstate Eight Conference loss. Jarod Schieler and Tyler Shipon each recorded 4 saves for the Storm.

Elgin 2, St. Charles East 0: For the first time in school history, the Maroons (5-2, 2-1) earned the 2-0 victory as they defeated Upstate Eight Conference foe St. Charles East. Sammy Escobar and Oscar Rodriguez each found the back of the net while Tony Benitez earned the shutout with 11 saves in goal.

St. Edward 2, Guerin 0: Logan Johnson notched both goals and Joe French added an assist as they led the Green Wave (2-4-1, 1-1) to a 2-0 victory in Suburban Christian Conference action. Matt Hesch recorded 5 saves for the shutout.

Dundee-Crown 7, Woodstock 0: Tony Meza (2 goals), Malik Washington, Eduardo Sanchez, Alejandro Garcia, Adolfo Sandoval (2 assists), and Ozvaldo Ramirez all contributed offensively as the Chargers (4-2) cruised to an easy 7-0 victory over Woodstock. Christian Martinez turned away 8 shots on goal for the shutout.

Cary-Grove 4, Grayslake Central 0: Eric Wilde netted 2 goals while Aidan McCarthy and Kevin Wilde each added a goal to give the Trojans (5-1) a 4-0 non-conference victory. Tom Breen recorded 1 save in goal.

Wheaton Academy 3, Streamwood 2: The Sabres (1-8-1) fell just short as they were defeated 3-2 by Wheaton Academy. Mario Rodriguez and Christian Rodriguez each recorded a goal while Nestor Ascencio tallied both assists. Jose Resendiz stopped 9 shots on goal.
