Art fair, History Crawl set for Palatine

The Palatine/Inverness Arts Council will present a public artist reception and show preview to its 7th annual juried art fair, An Art Affair Around the Square, from 6:30-9 p.m., Friday, Sept. 9, hosted by The Music Room at 26 North Brockway, in downtown Palatine.

Highlighted pieces of the weekend’s art show will be on display, and entertainment will be provided by acoustic guitarist Merv Collins.

“This is our first year offering a reception,” said council President Bill Pohlman. “We saw it as a natural extension of the art show and a great way to engage the public with the artists.”

The reception is free and open to the public. Appetizers and refreshments from downtown Palatine restaurants Heng Wing and Mexico Uno will be available.

The reception is being held in conjunction with the Palatine Historical Society’s History Crawl. The Music Room is one of the places of interest on the Friday night tour as well as a number of other downtown landmark buildings. More information on the crawl is available at www.palatinehistoricalsociety.com. The fair will be held from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 and Sunday, Sept. 11, in Towne Square in downtown Palatine, at the corners of Smith Street and Palatine Road. Throughout the weekend, over 30 booths will display a wide range of art, including water color, acrylic, oil, pottery, fine jewelry, stained glass and pastels. Entry to the juried art show is free.
